The Rising Moon Blog Tour--Author Interview with Nilsa Rodriguez

Hey guys! I'm lucky enough to be a blog on tour with The Rising Moon. Today I'll be featuring an interview with author Nilsa Rodriguez. You can find her web site HERE.  And her facebook page HERE. If you leave a comment on this or any one of the posts on the tour, you will be entered to win a large prize pack containing The Rising Moon stickers, pins, bookmarks, a mirror, a signed paperback copy, and a dream catcher identical to the one mentioned in the book!

"How many lives do you have to live to realize that love is stronger than time and death?
∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞∞
Orphaned at the age of five, Angelia (Lia) Lafosse was left with questions about whom and what she truly was. One thing was clear. Lia was different. Some might even say cursed.
With the help of her best friend, Ryan Woodruff, she begins to unlock the secrets of her family's past and discover answers that prove more startling than she ever imagined.  Not only was she a werewolf, but a reincarnation of the immortal werewolf, a werewolf with immense powers beyond any of her kind. A werewolf that if discovered by the Lobison’s to have returned, can jeopardize both Lia and those she love.
As destiny finds her love does too…and they couldn’t be more different. Torn between Lyle Ulric, the charming werewolf whose bloodline is as ancient and powerful as her own. And Adam Ambrose, the mysterious and alluring vampire who’s determined not to allow fate or anyone tear their love apart again.
Lia has to make a choice… Destiny or Love…Run or Fight…Live or Die"

Now Let's get to the interview! :)

1. Have you always wanted to write for teens?

I like to think that my book can be read by anyone old or young enough to enjoy it. Being an author of the YA genre allows for many endless possibilities because the teenage and young adult years are powerful ones and they’re full of experiences that shape who we'll become and how we’ll see the world for the rest of our life. I suppose I chose to write for teens and young adults because they have the freedom to do so many interesting things, like fall in love for the first time, getting your heart broken by the guy you have crushed on since freshman year, or even discovering who you truly are and accepting it, even if you are an immortal werewolf like Angelia in The Rising Moon.

2. Where did you get the idea for The Rising Moon? Did it come all at once or in parts?

The Rising Moon was actually part of an assignment for my writing class, and then the project became a novel. I fell in love with the characters and I felt I had to tell their story. The Rising Moon took four years to complete. Writing the ending was the hardest part not because I didn't know how to end it, but because I didn't want to say goodbye.

3. Knowing that there is so much "werewolf" material out there in YA, what did you try to do to make your work stand out?

The Rising moon includes many elements of paranormal, including shape shifters, witches, werewolves and vampires. What made it different is that unlike most of the werewolf/ vampire novels out there the stories main character is a werewolf herself and not just a plain human. I also chose to make my werewolves, Lobison's. The Lobison is a werewolf by birthright and has a legend behind it all its own. A legend I hope the readers will enjoy learning about as they read The Rising Moon.

4. Describe The Rising Moon in ten words or less.

1. Romance 2. Trust 3. Friendship 4. Believe 5. Choices 6. Acceptance 7. Discovery 8. Betrayal 9. Heartache 10. Death

5. And finally, (because I'm always curious), what is your favorite book at the moment?

I have too many favorite books at the moment, but if I had to choose one, I would have to say the Wolves of Mercy Falls by Maggie Stiefvater.

Sounds great huh? :) Make sure you check out the next stop on the tour tomorrow @ My Cute Bookshelf
Remember if you comment you get entered to win the grand prize! The winner will be announced on Nilsa's Facebook on September 21. I'm also hosting an stop on the tour on the 20th (a review.).

Not just a werewolf, but an immortal werewolf? You don't get a lot of those. The closest thing I can think of are the wolves in Patricia Briggs Mercy Thompson series. Thanks for the interview!
