April TBR

I realize this post is quite late. But hey, I figured that later is better than never. I achieved moderate success with late month's TBR, so here's to this being another great month in books.

Here's what I plan on reading this month:

1. Fated by Alyson Noel

2. Torn by Amanda Hocking

3. The Devouring by Simon Holt (Seriously I've been trying to read this forever. I know it's good. I have NO CLUE why I don't just finish it already!!)

And I'll be lucky if I get those read. April is going to be a busy month for this girl!

Oh and feel free to link up your TBR for April.

March Wrap-Up

It's the end of another month! That means it's time to look back at what I read and see how I did, and also link up the reviews I did this month.

I had four books in my TBR and only managed to read one of them. I did end up reading five books this month; just not books from the TBR. Though compared to the rest of the months this year, reading anything off my TBR is an accomplishment.

So here's what I read:

1. Embrace by Jessica Shirvington

2. Darker Still by Leanna Renee Hieber

3. Lessons from a Dead Girl by Jo Knowles

4. Brave New World by Aldous Huxley

5. Every Which Way But Dead by Kim Harrison

Reviews of Books I Didn't Read This Month:

1. The Night She Disappeared by April Henry

I only posted three reviews this month. Hopefully next month I will read and review more! Feel free to click the links and check out the reviews I did in March. Also, if you do a wrap-up/start-up post for the month leave a link to that in the comment and I'll be sure to check it out.

March TBR

It's time for another round of hope Alexis gets her stuff together and actually reads what is in her TBR! Your host for this? Alexis herself. The odds of this happening? Hopefully greater than they have been the past two months.

Okay, I'm hoping that I can at least read SOME of these books this month. That would be great. And an improvement from last month. So here we go.

The books that I'm hoping to read in the month of March are (with some exceptions of course):

1. The Devouring by Simon Holt

This was on last month's TBR too. I've already started it, so maybe it won't be to hard to finish and get a review posted.

2. The Humming Room by Ellen Potter

I've started this one too. It's a cute middle grade that I'm hoping I'm going to love because it's based on the secret garden. I got an ARC of this about a month ago and the release date was at the end of February, so I really need to get this read.

3. Fated by Alyson Noel
I won this from Early Reviewers on LibraryThing, and even though I haven't received it yet, I know I'm going to get it this month and that I won't be able to stop myself from reading it, so I better just put it on this list. I know it doesn't come out until the end of May, but it just looks so good!

4. Darker Still by Leanna Renee Hieber

I won this a month or so ago and was so excited to receive it. It sounds great and I hope to read it this month!

So those are my top 4 TBR books for March. What are you going to be reading this month? Tell me in the comments or leave a link to your TBR for March and I'll be happy to check it out!

Top Ten TBR: From My Bookshelf

I saw someone (I forget who) do this in a video a couple of weeks ago and thought it would be a good idea to do it myself. Currently I know I have way too many books that are TBR on my shelf and maybe deciding which ones I want to read next and trying to include them in the coming months would help get my brain in order. These, however, are in no particular order:

1. All These Things I've Done by Gabrielle Zevin

2. Hearts At Stake by Alyxandra Harvey

3. The Sharp Time by Mary O'Connell

4. A Long, Long, Sleep by Anna Sheeann

5. Darker Still by Leanna Renee Hieber

6. A Fist Full of Charms by Kim Harrison

7. Dreamland Social Club by Tara Altebrando

8. Something Like Fate by Susane Colasanti

9. The Forest of Hands and Teeth by Carrie Ryan

10. Glimmerglass by Jenna Black

What do you think of this list? Have you read any of these books and think I should push them farther up on my current "I NEED TO READ THIS OR ELSE" list? I would like to know in the comments. :)

February TBR

I can't believe that 2012 is already 1/12 of the way done! January was pretty good in books but I'm hoping this month will be even better. I didn't manage to read any books from last months TBR, just 6 books that weren't on that list. (Check THIS out.) That was a fail. I'm going to try to do better this month.

My list for February:

1. A Long, Long, Sleep by Anna Sheeann

2. The Devouring by Simon Holt

3. The Sharp Time by Mary O'Connell

4. Beauty Queens by Libba Bray

And that's the main list for this month! I think I have a review book or two that I'll need to squeeze in but this meat and potatoes.

What are you going to be reading this month? Let me know in the comments or leave a link to your TBR list for February.

In My Mailbox (18) January 8th, 2012

It's IMM time! In My Mailbox is hosted by Kristi @ The Story Siren; it's where bloggers talk about the books that they've bought, borrowed, or received for review.

This week I made a trip to the library, and received a surprise book in the mail. (Who doesn't like that??")

These are the books I got at the library:
1. Dash and Lily's Book of Dares by David Levithan and Rachel Cohn

And I got this book in the mail:
The Power of Habit (Why We Do What We Do and How to Change It)

In My Mailbox (13) November 20th, 2011

It's IMM time again folks! In My Mailbox is a weekly meme where book bloggers talk about the books that they have bought, borrowed, or received for review in a week. As always, IMM is hosted by Kristi @ The Story Siren.

This past week was huge for me. And I mean HUGE.

So instead of posting a picture for each book that I got, I decided that taking a group picture would be more efficient.... :D

1. The Lost Gate by Orson Scott Card
2. Off Armageddon Reef by David Weber
3. Warbreaker by Brandon Sanderson
4.Thirteen Orphans by Jane Lindskold
5. Fuzzy Nation by John Scalzi
6. Switched by Amanda Hocking (ARC)
7. Hmmm... Switched by Amanda Hocking (ARC)
8 . A Beautiful Friendship by David Weber

Not Pictured (Ebooks):
1. Crossed by Allie Condie
2. Bloodlines by Richelle Mead
3. Wither by Lauren DeStefano

That's all for me this week! What did you get in your mailbox? Just leave a comment letting me know or a link to your IMM and I'll be sure to check it out. :)

In My Mailbox (12) November 13th, 2011

It's IMM time again! :) In My Mailbox is a weekly meme hosted by Kristi @ The Story Siren where bloggers talk about the books that they've bought, borrowed, or received for review.

This week for me was full of library stuff! (I <3 the library. Sometimes I wonder what I would even do without it.)

Here's what I got:

AudioBooks:

And that's all for me this week! What did you get in your mailbox? Just tell me in the comments or leave a link to your IMM and I'll be sure to check it out. Also, do you like audiobooks? I happen to be a fan, but I know some people don't care for them. I'm just curious. :)

Time for another In My Mailbox, a weekly meme where bloggers display the books that they have bought, borrowed, or received for review. As always it's hosted by Kristi @ The Story Siren.

2. Hold Still by Nina LaCour
3. The Devouring by Simon Holt
4. Because I Am Furniture by Thalia Chaltas
5. Stealing Heaven by Elizabeth Scott
                                                                                    6. Going Too Far by Jennifer Echols

In My Mailbox (9) October 16th, 2011

It's time for another In My Mailbox, a weekly meme where bloggers talk about the books that they've bought, borrowed, or received in the past week. As always, it's hosted by Kristi @ The Story Siren. (She rocks by the way!)

For me, this week wasn't very that great. I got two books in the mail, which is amazing, but I was expecting a package with four books to arrive and it didn't. Next week will definitely be bigger because I'm expecting a package from Amazon. :) I was very excited to get the books that I did receive this week: An ARC Copy of Bitter End by Jenifer Brown, and a hardcover of Every You, Every Me by David Levithan.

Bitter End was actually an RAK (Random Acts of Kindness) that I was really excited to get. I'll be doing an RAK roundup post at the end of the month talking about RAK and what happened to me this month relating to it. (What and Who and all that jazz.)

So that is it for me this week. What did you get in your mailbox? Leave a comment letting me know or a link to your IMM and I'll be sure to check it out. :)

Happy Reading!

October TBR

So it's October....

I realize that this post is extremely over due, but I've been taking a break from blogging for various personal reasons. (Moving, School, and life in general as some examples.) I plan on really giving my self more time for reading for fun in the near future though, so I figured getting more active on the blog would be a good step.

Since it is October, I've seen that a lot of people have decided to read only Halloween/Horror this month. In general, I prefer reading, well, whatever. So the TBR pile for the rest of this month is mostly just what I have at the top of my pile.

1. The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin

2. Burned by Ellen Hopkins (I ordered this one off of Amazon and I can't wait till it gets here!)

3. Nightsahde by Andrea Cremer

For now I think I'm going to try and be realistic and stick with these three for the rest of the month. Some others might sneak their way in here....but this is the meat of what I'll be reading this month. I've actually already started The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer and it's really good so far. Except a review some time early next week. :)

Happy Reading!

Banned Books Week

If you read, you probably know that this week (September 24-October 1) is Banned Books Week. This is the week were people everywhere celebrate the right to read anything and everything that they want. I feel really offended personally when I hear about books being challenged and banned; books have been a major part and influence in who I am as a person. I even feel like my life would be different if I hadn't read the books I've read. I think that it important that everyone's opinion is heard; people may have their own personal opinions on the topics discussed, but they have no right to take an other person opinion and ban it from public view.

ALA has a list of the top ten challenged books of 2010 and I thought I would list and talk about the ones I've read. (If I've read it it's in orange. If I haven't it's in blue)

1) And Tango Makes Three, by Peter Parnell and Justin Richardson

2) The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian, by Sherman Alexie

3) Brave New World, by Aldous Huxley

4) Crank, by Ellen Hopkins

I actually haven't read Crank yet, but I have read other books by Ellen Hopkins and they all have been mind blowingly amazing. They do deal with topics that to some might seem controversial, but they are realistic and thought-provoking.

5) The Hunger Games, by Suzanne Collins
The Hunger Games. Who hasn't read this at this point? I see no reason why anybody would ban this.

6) Lush, by Natasha Friend

7) What My Mother Doesn't Know, by Sonya Sones

Another amazing novel told in verse. I think verse novels in particular are challenged just because they seem more raw and realistic. I'm guessing this one was challenged because some lying does occur in the book. I guess the people who challenged it never lie themselves?

8) Nickel and Dimed, by Barbara Ehrenreich

9) Revolutionary Voices, edited by Amy Sonnie

10) Twilight, by Stephenie Meyer

This one falls into The Hunger Games category with WHO HASN'T READ THIS. Twilight is all in good fun. All sane people know that vampires are fiction. It isn't telling its readers to go sign a contact with satan.

So what do you think about books being banned? What are some of your favorite banned books? Have anything cool you are doing for banned books week?

Happy Banned Books Week and happy reading!

In My Mailbox (7) September 25th, 2011

It's In My Mailbox time! In My Mailbox is a weekly meme hosted by Kristi @ The Story Siren, where bloggers talk about the books they borrowed, bought, or received for review.

I got three books this week, and all of them came from my local library. I think Choker is the one I'm most excited for, just because of all the amazing reviews I've seen describing it as one of the most creepy books they have ever read. Sounds like it's right down my alley. I also got Demon Trapper's Daughter, which I've had on hold for almost a month. Finally, The Iron Witch, whose cover alone had me adding it to my stack. :)

If you want to know more about any of the above books, just click their cover; they are links to their Goodreads pages.

That's all for me this week! What did you get in your mailbox? In the comments let me know or leave a link to your IMM and I'll be sure to check it out. :)

Happy Reading!

In My Mailbox (6) September 18, 2011

It's time for this week's In My Mailbox, an amazing meme hosted by Kristi @ The Story Siren where bloggers tell about the books they've borrowed, bought, or received for review.

No books for me this week, but two exciting things happened.

Exciting thing #1: I was awarded the Liebester Blog award from Escaping With Fiction! I had already received the award, but her blog is awesome and she deserves more followers than she actually has, so I thought I would give her a shout out as a thank you for the award. :)

Exciting thing # 2: I did receive something book related In My Mailbox: A SIGNED postcard for the upcoming YA paranormal short story collection Enthralled! It's signed by Jackson Pearce, author of As You wish, Sisters Red, and Sweetly. There are also 15 other authors including Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl, Rachel Vincent, and Kimberly Derting that have stories in there though, so I'm really excited. It comes out on the 20th of this month, and I'm definitely
adding it to my TBR list. Plus the cover is just beautiful!

(Click the cover to be taken to Enthralled's Goodreads page.)

What did you get in your mailbox this week? Let me know in the comments or post a link in the comments and I'll be sure to check it out.

Happy Reading!

In My Mailbox (5) September 11, 2011

It's time for another In My Mailbox! As always, In My Mailbox is hosted by the awesome Kristi @ The Story Siren.  The purpose of In My Mailbox is to tell about the books that we've bought, borrowed, or received for review.

This week I got a total of three books: My Soul to Take (Soul Screamers #1), My Soul to Save (Soul Screamers #2), and The Rising Moon. Both books in the Soul Screamers Series I got from the library, and The Rising Moon I got for review in my mailbox. Black Dove Publishing was also nice enough to include two bookmarks, two stickers, two buttons, and a postcard with my copy of The Rising Moon. :)

I'm participating in a blog tour for The Rising Moon, so make sure to stop by on the 14th and 20th for that. I'll be hosting an author interview and a review. Also, if you comment on any of the posts in the blog tour you will be entered to win the grand prize! Stay tuned for more details on that...

If you want to know more about any of the books pictured above, just click on them and they will direct you to their Goodreads pages.

That's it for me this week. What did you get in your mailbox? Leave and comment and let me know or a link to your IMM and I'll be sure to check it out. :)

September TBR

I'm so excited to read the books I have for this month! September means school for me though, so I hope I can find the balance I need between reading/blogging and my schoolwork. Either way, I have got a lot of good books:

Leaving Paradise by Simon Elkeles
Return to Paradise by Simon Elkeles
Soul Thief by Jana OliverBeautiful Darkness by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl
Something Like Fate by Susane Colosanti
The Demon Trappers Daughter by Jana Oliver
Glow by Amy Kathleen Ryan
The Rising Moon by Nilsa Rodriguez

If you want to know anything else about the books I just listed, just click on the pictures and you'll get linked back to their goodreads pages. Except for Then Rising Moon, where I linked back the author's website because I wouldn't find a goodreads page.

What are you planning on reading in September? Do you do a TBR at the beginning of the month? Let me know in the comments and I'll be sure to check them out.

Happy Reading!
